PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University will host a public reception for Gorillas baseball coach Steve Bever, who will retire at the end of the 2012 season.

The reception will take place in the Heritage Room in the Jack Overman Student Center from 1 - 3 p.m. Wednesday (May 2).

Bever has compiled a 565-525 record in 1,090 career games heading into the final four-game regular season series against No. 5 Central Missouri (37-7, 30-4 MIAA) Friday (May 4).

Bever, a four-year starter for the Gorillas from 1966-69 playing for coach Al Ortolani, helped restart the Pitt State program in 1991. He is completing his 22nd season leading his alma mater.  Bever led the team to the 1999 MIAA title and to four NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances (1997, 1998, 1999, 2002).
