Bank Honors
23 PSU Senior Student-Athletes
Twenty-three
senior Pittsburg State University
student-athletes were honored for their academic
and athletic achievements at the 2008 Student
Athlete Recognition Ceremony hosted by
Commerce Bank Thursday (May 8) at Pittsburg’s
Memorial Auditorium.

Seven members of the Pittsburg
State University track & field teams -- five men and two
women -- earned bids to the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor
National Championships Tuesday (May 13).
Sophomore Braden Hayes qualified
in both the hammer and the discus. The Norman, Okla., native
has the fifth-best mark in the hammer (196-1) and the ninth-best
mark in the discus (174-8).
Senior Jeremy Dunkle (14.25)
and sophomore Jeremy Jackson (14.29) qualified eighth and
10th in the 110 meter hurdles, while freshman Kiara Jones
qualified 11th in the triple jump (49-2.25).
Sophomore MJ Hassaballa also
earned a berth in the 1,500 meters (3:52.08), snaring the
16th and final slot in that event.
On the women's side, senior
Kiley Lund qualified sixth in the high jump on the strength
of her clearance of 5-8 at the ESU Twilight Qualifier Meet
on May 10, while senior Erica Ogle secured the 17th and final
spot in the steeplechase with her personal-best time of 11:03.95
from the MIAA Championships two weeks ago.
The 2008 NCAA-II Outdoor Championships
will be held May 22-24 at Pomona, Calif.

Three Pitt State Baseball
Players Earn All-MIAA Honors
Three
members of the Pittsburg State University baseball team earned
All-MIAA honors Monday (May 12) when the team was released.
Junior outfielder
Taylor House garnered second-team All-MIAA honors, while senior
shortstop Brett Hothan and freshman utility player Brian Dean
were named to the honorable mention All-MIAA squad.
House, from Neosho,
Mo., hit a team-leading .407 with six home runs, 53 runs scored
and 28 RBIs.
Hothan, a Topeka
native, hit .379 with a team-leading eight home runs and 41
RBIs, while Dean, from Littleton, Colo., batted .313 with
nine doubles and 23 RBIs, splitting time at second base and
catcher. [full
