Megan Besecker enters her second year as head volleyball coach at Pittsburg State University.

Besecker, the 12th head coach in program history, came to Pitt State after a successful two-year stint in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference as head coach at Barton Community College. She enters the 2026 campaign with a 72-25 (.742) three-year record as a head coach.

In her initial season leading the Gorillas in 2025, Besecker guided Pitt State to a 14-15 overall record and a 6-10 mark in MIAA play. The Gorillas qualified for the eight-team 2025 MIAA Championships and Pitt State scored an upset win over MIAA regular season co-champion Missouri Western State University, the No. 16 ranked team in NCAA Division II, in the tournament quarterfinals. It marked the Gorillas first postseason win in four seasons. Under Besecker’s leadership, senior Anna Dean garnered first-team All-MIAA honors and was voted the MIAA Blocker of the Year. Senior libero Josey McCroskey also received first-team All-MIAA honors; and Dean was additionally selected to the second-team All-Region squad at season’s end.
 
Besecker served as head volleyball coach at Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kan., during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, leading the Cougars to back-to-back Kansas Jayhawk Conference titles as well as a fourth-place finish at the 2024 NJCAA National Tournament. She compiled a 58-10 (.853) record during her tenure at Barton, including a 33-4 mark in 2024. Besecker was tabbed the KJCCC and the AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year. Additionally, she received the AVCA:s 30 Under 30 Award recognition in 2024. She coaches on All-America performer, two KJCCC Player of the Year honorees, a Jayhawk Conference Freshman of the Year as well as seven first-team All-Conference selections.
 
Prior to Barton, Besecker served as an assistant coach at Florida SouthWestern College for one season, helping head coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen lead the Bucs to a 27-1 record and the NJCAA Division I National Championship in 2022. Florida SouthWestern captured Suncoast Conference and FCSAA State Championships along the way. She helped coach the 2022 NJCAA and AVCA National Player of the Year in Barbara Koehler.
 
Besecker also served as an assistant coach at MIAA rival Emporia State University in 2021 after spending the 2019 and 2020 seasons as head coach in her hometown at Liberal (Kan.) High School.
 
Besecker earned an associate’s in science degree from Garden City Community College in 2017 and a bachelor’s of science degree in sociology from Tougaloo College in 2019.
