GENERAL SQUAD INFORMATION

TRYOUTS [April 19-20, 2008]
•Tryouts will be held annually in March or April.
•Tryouts are held two days, usually on Saturday and Sunday.
•Tryouts take place in the Weede building (John Lance Arena) inside the Dance Studio.
•There is a $20.00 fee for each participant.
•You must have a copy of your physical (completed within a year of the tryout date) and a copy of your insurance to participate.
•For additional information please obtain our brochure on tryouts, visit the website, or contact the coach/sponsor.
•All contact information is located on the back of this brochure.

PERFORMANCES
•The squad will perform with the Pride of the Plains Marching Band at every home football game.
•The squad will perform a choreographed routine at every home basketball game.
•The squad will perform at play-off games and possible tournaments.
•Performances throughout the community and within school functions will be required.
•The squad will perform at various out of town games (both football and basketball).
•The squad will perform during Pittsburg State University’s various Homecoming events.
•The squad will perform at various exhibitions with the band.
•Performances will be required during the University’s scheduled breaks.

PRACTICE
The squad will practice everyday. The typical practice schedule is as follows:
•MWF 2:15-4:30 p.m.
•T/TH 6:15-7:30 a.m.
Location: The Weede Building in the Dance Studio.
All classes should be scheduled around practice. If a conflict should arise, it is to be discussed with the coach/sponsor.
Practices also will be required during University’s scheduled breaks and over the summer.

EVALUATIONS
•Evaluations on each member will be completed prior to every performance.
•Evaluations are completed by the coach/sponsor.
•Evaluations are based on a point system.
•An example of an evaluation sheet is listed below. Please know that this is only an example.

COMPETITION
•The squad will participate in a college national dance competition.
•The coach/sponsor will determine the location. Usually the squad will compete at USA (in Las Vegas) or UDA (in Orlando) nationals, however the coach/sponsor may choose another location.
•Nationals will take place during the spring semester.
•The squad will be required to practice during the university’s scheduled holiday breaks.
•Evaluations to compete with the squad will be completed for each member (the evaluations will be based on a point system).

STIPENDS
•Each member will receive a stipend.
•1st and 2nd year members will receive $300.00
•3rd year members will receive $350.00
•4th and 5th year members will receive $400.00. (Any member who has been on the squad for more than 5 years, their stipend will be negotiated with the coach/sponsor).
•Captains will receive $500.00.
•Stipends will be given at two times throughout the year. The first half of the stipend will be given at the end of the fall semester, and then the rest of the stipend will be given after the spring semester.
•Demerits will be subtracted from a member’s stipend.

FUNDRAISING
•All members will be expected to participate in fundraising.
•Fundraising opportunities will be approved and set up by the coach/sponsor.
•Fundraising activities may start immediately after tryouts and continue throughout the year.

BASIC COST PER MEMBER
Each member will be required to personally purchase the following items:
•Jazz shoes
•Jazz boots
•Dance paws
•Tennis shoes
•Black and Tan body tights
The coach/sponsor will provide members with ordering information for all of the items listed above. Each member will also be responsible for some travel expenses. Additional expenses may arise throughout the year.
