Biography
Enters his fifth season with the Pittsburg State program... a talented athlete who is a three-time national qualifier... will look to continue to lead the Gorillas this fall after redshirting last season.
In 2012: Redshirt season.
In 2011: Led the Gorillas in all five races he participated in... earned All-MIAA honors by finishing second overall at the MIAA Championships...turned in a fourth-place finish at the 2011 NCAA-II South Central Regional... placed 36th at the NCAA-II National Championships.
In 2010: Competed in six races... an All-MIAA performer with a fifth place showing at the 2010 MIAA Championships... finished fourth overall the the NCAA-II South Central Regional...turned in a 56th place finish overall at the NCAA-II National Championships as PSU's lone qualifier.Â
In 2009: Competed in seven races... an honorable mention All-MIAA performer with a 15th place showing at the 2009 MIAA Championships... also placed 23rd overall the the NCAA-II South Central Regional... helped Pitt State to an 18th place showing at the NCAA-II National Championships.
On the Track: Competed in both the 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m... posted a second place finish in the 10,000m at the 2012 Miaa Outdoor Championships… earned All-MIAA honors after placing second in both the 1,500m and 5,000m races at the 2013 MIAA Outdoor Championships, helping PSU claim the 2013 MIAA Outdoor team championship.
In High School: Finished 3rd at the 2008 Missouri Class 4A State Cross Country Meet competing at Lee’s Summit High School… Placed 13th in the 1600m at the 2009 Missouri 4A State Track Meet.
Personal: Born March 14, 1991... son of Joe and Lisa Volkert… a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll… has a 3.61 GPA as a physical education major.
