Liberty (Mo.) Native Carr Signs With PSU Cross Country/Track
PITTSBURG
-- Pittsburg State University head women’s cross country/track &
field coach Russ Jewett announced today (Nov. 15) that Lauren Carr, a
senior at Liberty (Mo.) High School has signed a national letter of intent
to compete for the Gorillas during the 2007-08 season.
Carr earned Missouri Class 4A All-State
honors by placing sixth individually at the state meet this past fall.
She helped lead Liberty High School to the Missouri Class 4A state title.
Among her senior season cross country exploits, Carr placed fourth individually
at the Kansas City Metro Meet and 15th individually at the University
of Kansas Rim Rock High School Invitational -- a pair of the premier meets
in the Midwest.
In
track & field, Carr earned All-State honors at LHS as a member of
the 4x800 meter relay. She plans to pursue a degree in biology (pre-physical
therapy) at Pittsburg State.
“We are fortunate and excited to have Lauren
join our program next year,” Jewett said. “She has distinguished
herself as one of the best high school cross country athletes in Missouri,
while leading her team to a state championship this season. I am impressed
not only with her performance capabilities, but also with the strong leadership
qualities that she has demonstrated and her commitment to team values.
I am confident that she will make a strong impact on our program’s
future success.”
Carr is the first student-athlete to sign with
Pitt State for the 2007-08 season. The Pittsburg State women’s cross
country team qualified for the 2006 NCAA Division II National Championships.
The Gorillas will race at Pensacola, Fla., Saturday (Nov. 18).
