Pittsburg Native Jones Signs With Pitt State Women’s
Basketball
PITTSBURG
-- Pittsburg State University head women’s basketball coach Lane
Lord announced today (Apr. 19) that Aubrey Jones, a sophomore at Independence
Community College, has signed a national letter of intent to join the
Gorillas for the 2008-09 season.
Jones, a 6-foot-3 center, helped the Lady
Pirates compile a 24-9 record and capture the Jayhawk Conference East
title this past winter. She saw action in all 33 games, averaging 2.6
points and 3.4 rebounds per game. The Pittsburg native also registered
18 blocked shots and shot .464 from the field (39 of 84).
Jones earned honorable mention Kansas Class 2A
All-State honors as a senior at St. Mary’s-Colgan High School in
2006. She averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds per game that year, helping
the Panthers to an 18-5 overall record.
“Our
coaching staff and players are excited to have Aubrey Jones join the Gorilla
family,” Lord said. “Aubrey helps us fill a need in the post
position. She has continued to develop her game while playing at Independence
Community College under coach Tony Turner. At 6-3, Aubrey runs the floor
very well and can finish inside with both hands.”
Jones is the second player to sign with Pitt State
for the 2008-09 season. Amanda Orloske, a 5-10 guard at Wichita Heights
High School, inked with the Gorillas during the early signing period last
November.
