Bulldogs Turn Back Pitt State, 79-72, in Finale
PITTSBURG
-- Georgia Mueller scored a game-high 34 points and grabbed 14
rebounds to lead Truman State University to a 79-72
victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Mar. 1) at John Lance
Arena in the regular season finale for both teams.
Truman (15-12, 7-11 MIAA) advances to the MIAA Postseason
Tournament as either the No. 7 or No. 8 seed, pending evening action Saturday,
while Pitt State (10-17, 4-14
MIAA) sees its season come to a close.
The Gorillas trailed by just three points, 68-65,
with 4:21 to play, but the Bulldogs outscored Pitt State, 6-2, over the
next three minutes to stave off the comeback bid.
Marissa Poppe and Laura Glenn each logged double-doubles
for Pitt State. Poppe finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Glenn
added 13 points and 12 boards. Liz Witte (11), Brianna Buchanan (10) and
Bailey Waugh (10) also scored in double figures for the Gorillas, while
Katelyn Hinkin added six points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
The Gorillas shot just 30.2 percent from the field,
but Pitt State benefited from 29 offensive rebounds in the contest. The
Bulldogs shot 46.7 percent from the field and owned a 20-12 advantage
over Pitt State at the foul line.
Candace McGee joined Mueller in double figures
with 13 points for Truman.
