Bearcats Ride Early Lead to 71-58 Win over Gorillas

    MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State University charged out to a 27-10 lead over Pittsburg State University and the Bearcats rode their early momentem to a 71-58 victory over the Gorillas Saturday (Feb. 16) at Bearcat Arena.
    The Gorillas (10-13, 4-10 MIAA) trimmed the margin to eight points, at 53-45, with 10:09 to play in the game, but the Bearcats (13-10, 8-6 MIAA) held Pitt State off down the stretch.
    Brianna Buchanan, Laura Glenn and DePrice Taylor all finished with nine points for the Gorillas who shot just 31.3 percent from the field in the game including a tepid 2-for-17 shooting from 3-point range.
    Mandi Schumacher logged a double-double with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Bearcats, while Kelli Nelson added 14 points. Jessica Burton also had five points, nine rebounds and eight of the Bearcats’ 21 assists.
