Jennies Use Late Run to Secure 70-58 Victory

Gorilla logo    WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The University of Central Missouri used a 15-0 run over a four minute stretch of the second half to turn a 48-46 deficit into a 13-point lead en route to a 70-58 victory over short-handed Pittsburg State University Saturday (Feb. 2) at the Multipurpose Building.
The Gorillas (8-11, 2-8 MIAA), who dropped their seventh straight decision put up a solid fight against the Jennies (8-11, 3-7 MIAA) despite the absence of sophomore guard DePrice Taylor. Taylor, who was held out of the lineup while battling flu-like symptons, was coming off a season-best 24-point performance Wednesday at Fort Hays State. She averages 11.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game on the season.
Junior forward Linda Igbinigie came off the bench to turn in a team-leading 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots in a season-high 25 minutes of action. Freshman forward Laura Glenn and junior guard Brianna Buchanan added 11 apiece for Pitt State, while freshman guard Bailey Waugh chipped in with a season-best nine points as well.
Senior guard Lindsey Maple, limited to two points in a 60-58 loss to Pitt State on Jan. 2 at Pittsburg, fired in a game-high 20 points for the Jennies. Senior forward Jojuana Jones turned in a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds despite a 3-for-17 shooting performance. Kelce Goebl also chipped in with 15 points for UCM.
