Gorillas Set to Open Outdoor Season With Wendy’s/PSU
Open Saturday
PITTSBURG--
The Pittsburg State University men’s and women’s track &
field teams will open their 2008 outdoor seasons Saturday (Mar. 22) by
hosting the Wendy’s/PSU Open at Prentice Gudgen Track.
Field events begin at Noon (CDT) while action
on the track gets started at 3 p.m.
MIAA rival Northwest Missouri State University
compete in the small meet, along with Drury University, Evangel University,
Allen County Community College and Fort Scott Community College. A handful
of athletes from Missouri Southern State University also are entered in
the competition.
“This will be a small meet, especially on
the women’s side,” PSU head coach Russ Jewett said. “We
would prefer to not host a meet during our spring break, but we felt strongly
that we needed a competition, and there were no other feasible options.
“There will be some very good athletes in certain
events. Even though we have competed in six indoor meets, this will still
be a beginning of a season for us. We are excited to get the outdoor season
under way and be on a bigger track and deal with the wind, sun, rain or
whatever nature has in store for us.”
