Gorillas Set to Host Pitt State Track Invitational
Friday
PITTSBURG
-- The Pittsburg State University men’s and women’s indoor
track & field teams will host the Pitt State Invitational Friday (Feb.
1) at John Lance Arena. The meet was originally scheduled to begin at
1 p.m. (CST) but has since been moved up to a Noon start thanks to a large
field of teams who have entered the competition.
PSU head coach Russ Jewett said 15 schools, including
the host Pitt State squads, and more than 450 athletes will take part
in the meet. MIAA rivals Emporia State University and Missouri Southern
State University will take part in the meet as well as a strong contingent
of NJCAA and NAIA programs.
“This has evolved into a rather large meet,”
Jewett said. “Originally we planned a smaller meet, but apparantly
there aren’t a lot of other meets being hosted this week and our
numbers grew. We’re excited to host a meet of this size and look
forward to a great day of competition.
“As far as our teams are concerned, they
are progressing well. I would have liked to have seen a provisional qualifying
mark or two last week in our first meet but overall I’m pleased
with our progress. There’s still a lot for our younger athletes
to learn and Friday should provide a good environment.”
