Swartslander Shares MIAA Hitter of the Week Honors

MIAA logo    Overland Park, Kan. -- Pittsburg State University centerfielder Tera Swartslander shared Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Hitter of the Week honors Tuesday (Apr. 15).
Swartslander, a 5-foot-8 senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., forced extra innings with an RBI-double, then drove home the winning run in the ninth as the Gorillas claimed a 5-4, extra-inning home win over Southwest Baptist Wednesday (April 9).
With a runner on second and one out, she stroked a double to left center and knotted the score at 4-4, after SBU had plated four runs in the fifth to wipe out an early 3-0 lead by Pitt State.
She came up in the ninth with two on and one out, and Swartslander came through with a double to the right-center gap to end the game as the rains came and eventually wiped out the second game of the scheduled doubleheader.
Swartslander, a graduate of Broken Arrow High School, shared the weekly award with University of Central Missouri senior first baseman Whitney Sandberg.
