Gorillas Salvage Split Against Griffons Sunday

    PITTSBURG -- Lori Lockhart, Jessica Jones and Haley Deaton hit home runs in three successive at-bats in the fifth inning to break open a 2-1 game and propel Pittsburg State University to a 6-1 victory and a split of an MIAA doubleheader against Missouri Western State University Sunday (Apr. 6) at the PSU Softball Complex.
    The Griffons (19-21, 4-6 MIAA) used a six-run fourth inning to turn a 1-0 game into a 7-0 lead en route to an 11-3 victory over the Gorillas (16-20, 4-2 MIAA).
    Jones hit three home runs in the twinbill. She hit a pair of solo shots in the fifth and seventh innings in the opener. Deaton went 2-for-4 with four runs scored on the day, while Lockhart batted 4-for-6 with a double, the homer and two RBIs.
    Stephanie Moore (4-12) won for just the second time in her last nine outings. She allowed just a pair of hits -- including an RBI single by Brittany Douglas -- in the third inning. Moore walked one and struck out two.
