Gorillas Sweep Bearcats in Non-Conference Twinbill

    PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 4-3 victory in game one and the Gorillas built an early lead en route to a 5-2 win in game two of a non-conference doubleheader against Southwest Baptist University Tuesday (Mar. 25).
    The victories help Pitt State (12-13) snap a five-game losing streak on the season.
    Lori Lockhart had a game-tying double to knot the score at 3-3 in game one. She scored the go-ahead run on Lindsay Birchfield’s RBI grounder. Tiffany Swanson (8-2) worked a complete game for the win. She walked one and struck out six batters.
    In game two, Swanson belted a two-run home run and Haley Deaton added a solo shot as the Gorillas built a 4-0 lead over the Bearcats (6-11). Stephanie Moore (3-9) walked two and struck out four in picking up the complete-game win for Pitt State.
