Swanson Garners MIAA Pitcher of the Week Honors

MIAA logo    Overland Park, Kan. -- Pittsburg State University righthander Tiffany Swanson garnered Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday (Mar. 18).
Swanson, a 5-foot-4 sophomore from Coweta, Okla., picked up decisions in seven of the Gorillas’ 10 wins with no losses (as of Mar. 16 competition) to open the season, logging a one-hit shutout and a pair of double-digit strikeout efforts along the way.
She fanned seven, hit a batter and walked one in her one-hitter against Drury (Mo.) March 2. The lone hit Swanson gave up was a two-out single in the second inning.
Swanson struck out a season-best 11 with two walks in a five-hit shutout of Kansas Wesleyan Feb. 28 for her first victory of the season.
Last week, she posted back-to-back eight-inning victories. Swanson allowed seven hits and two earned runs with no walks and five strikeouts in a non-conference, 6-5 win over Washburn March 9, and followed up two days later against Newman (Kan.) by allowing nine hits and two earned runs with 10 strikeouts and no walks in a 7-5 win. Against the Jets, she allowed only two hits and no runs in the final five innings.
Swanson is a graduate of Coweta High School, and transferred to PSU from the University of Central Arkansas following her freshman season.
