Johnson Inducted into NAIA Hall of Fame
PITTSBURG
-- Former Pittsburg State University men’s basketball and
golf coach Bob Johnson was inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA) Hall of Fame in ceremonies held at the NAIA National
Convention at Kansas City, Mo., on March 18.
Johnson, who coached basketball at Pittsburg State
from 1967-80 and golf from 1977-84, was one of 19 individuals named to
the 2006-07 NAIA Hall of Fame Class.
A native of Mankato, Kan., Johnson led the Gorillas
to 157 victories during his 14-year basketball tenure, including the 1975
Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) title. He also guided the Gorillas
to a 22-8 record and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in 1972.
Johnson, who is retired and resides in Frontenac, was
inducted into the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in
1986. He also was inducted into the PSU Athletics Hall of Fame for meritorious
service in 2006.
