Abercrombie Garners MIAA Player of the Week Honors

Park, Kan. -- Pittsburg State University forward/center Cory Abercrombie
garnered Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Player of the
Week honors Monday (Dec. 31).
Abercrombie, a 6-foot-7, 243-pound senior from Piedmont,
S.C., averaged 19.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.67 steals in three wins
for the No. 16 Gorillas since Dec. 17, as PSU completed December as the
MIAA’s only undefeated team.
He scored a game-high 20 points and hauled in
a career-best 15 rebounds in a 58-54 win over Angelo (Texas) State Dec.
18 in the St. Mary's (Texas) River City Classic. Abercrombie hit the go-ahead
bucket with 17 seconds left to stake Pitt State to a two-point lead.
The night before against the host Rattlers, he
scored 16 points with eight rebounds, going 8-of-10 at the foul line as
the Gorillas collected a 63-54 win.
Abercrombie logged his second double-double in
as many games and league-best third of the season (tied with SBU's Matthew
Rogers) with 21 points and 10 boards in a 93-58 home win Saturday (Dec.
29) over Southwestern (Kan.).
For the week, he was 21-of-37 (56.8 percent) from
the floor and 15-of-20 (75 percent) at the free throw line.
Abercrombie is a graduate of Palmetto High School,
and transferred to PSU from Independence (Kan.) Community College.
