Hill College’s Owens Signs With PSU Basketball
PITTSBURG
-- Pittsburg State University basketball coach Gene Iba announced today that Quincy Owens, a sophomore at Hill College in Cleburne, Texas, has signed a national letter of intent to join the Gorillas for the 2009-10 season.
Owens, a six-feet, eight-inch, 235-pound forward, will have junior eligibility for Pitt State next season. The Milwaukee, Wis., native averaged 11 points and eight rebounds per game as a freshman at Hill College last year. He is contributing 13.0 points and 11.5 points per game in the Rebels’ first six contests this fall.
Owens was a two-time All-State performer at Milwaukee’s Eddison High School, averaging 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game as a senior in 2007.
“Quincy is a big, strong inside player,” Iba said. “He rebounds well, defends well and shoots the ball well out to the 15 to 18-foot range. We’re happy to have him sign early with us, and we think he’ll be an impact player next year.”
Owens is the first player to sign with Pitt State for the 2009-10 campaign. The Gorillas, who are coming off back-to-back 18-win seasons, will make their season debut by hosting an exibition game against Livin’ the Dream at 7 p.m. Monday (Nov. 17), before opening regular season play Nov. 21-22 at the MSSU Chris Tucker Memorial Classic at Joplin, Mo.
