Morris Signs Professional Hoops Contract
PITTSBURG
-- Ed Morris, who completed a decorated two-year
career as a forward for Pittsburg State University in March, has signed
a contract to play professional basketball in Spain.
The Wichita, Kan., native inked a one-year deal
with Club Nuevo Basketball Torrevieja. He will depart for Spain Aug. 9.
Morris earned first-team All-MIAA honors and was named
to the five-man MIAA All-Defensive Team as a senior this past winter,
helping the Gorillas to an 18-13 record and a trip to the NCAA-II National
Tournament.
Morris averaged 14.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocked
shots per game, while shooting 57.2 percent from the field on the year.
He earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors as a junior in 2005-06 when
he averaged 11.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
“Ed has gotten better in every phase of the game,”
said PSU head coach Gene Iba. “He’s made as much progress
in two years as any player we’ve had in our program. Ed understands
how to play the game better than he did when he first came here. His confidence
has improved and that led to his offensive production improving along
the way.”
Morris becomes the fifth Pitt State player during Iba’s
tenure to sign professionally in Europe, joining the likes of Oscar Gonzalez,
Jai Pradia, Cedric Brooks and Oliver Vogt on European rosters.
