Coffeyville C.C. Transfer Jackson Signs With Pitt State
PITTSBURG
-- Pittsburg State University head basketball coach Gene Iba announced
today (May 10) that Aaron Jackson, a sophomore at Coffeyville Community
College, has signed a letter of intent to
join the Gorillas for the 2007-08 season.
Jackson, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound point guard,
helped lead the Red Ravens to a 33-5 record and a third-place finish at
the NJCAA National Tournament this past winter. The Kansas City, Kan.,
native averaged 5.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and a team-leading 3.2 assists
per game during his sophomore season. He made 29 3-point field goals and
also averaged 1.2 steals per game.
Jackson averaged 24.5 points per game at Kansas
City’s Turner High School as a senior in 2004-05. He averaged 17
points, six assists and two steals per game as a junior at L.V. Berkner
High School in Dallas, Texas. He was a first-team All-Conference selection
in both his sophomore and junior seasons in Texas.
“Aaron is the type of point guard that will
create a lot of excitement,” Iba said. “He pushes the ball
down the floor well and he’s good at finding receivers. He’s
a long point guard who has the lateral quickness to cover perimeter players
well. With Keith Windom returning to our program, Aaron’s addition
gives us two experienced point guards to start the season.”
Jackson is the second player to sign with Pitt
State for the 2007-08 season. Zach Quick, a senior at Fort Scott High
School, inked with the Gorillas earlier this week. Pitt State posted an
18-13 overall record and qualified
for the NCAA Division II National Tournament during the 2006-07 campaign.
