Gorillas Claim Workmanlike Victory, 67-53
PITTSBURG
-- Pittsburg State University knocked down 63 percent of its shots in
the first half en route to a 12-point cushion and the Gorillas never looked
back in the second half while claiming a workmanlike 67-53
win over Fort Hays State University Thursday (Feb. 7) at John Lance Arena.
The win helped the Gorillas improve to 14-6
overall, 5-6 in the MIAA, while helping Pitt State ease the sting of an
85-78 triple overtime defeat at the hands of the Tigers (14-6, 6-5 MIAA)
on Jan. 30 at Hays.
Cory Abercrombie went 8-for-10 from the field
and finished the game with a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds to pace
the Gorillas. Carlos Taylor added 14 points, while Michael Hutchingson
finished in double figures with 10 as well.
FHSU, which shot just 38 percent from the field
in the game, got a team-leading 17 points from Tyrone Evans. LaTravis
Turner and Corbin Kuntzsch added seven apiece for the Tigers.
