Mules Power Past Pitt State in 63-53 Victory
WARRENSBURG,
Mo. -- The University of Central Missouri close
out the first half on an 11-2 run to turn a two-point deficit into a seven-point
lead and the Mules never looked back in the second half while rolling
to a 63-53
victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Feb. 2) at the Multipurpose
Building.
The Gorillas (13-6,
4-6 MIAA), who lost for their second time in as many games, got as
close as five points of the Mules (12-7, 5-5 MIAA) early in the second
half, but UCM pulled away midway through the period with a 9-1 run that
gave the Mules a 16-point advantage.
Cory Abercrombie logged a double-double with 19
points and 10 rebounds, but he was the only Pitt State player to reach
double figures. Michael Hutchingson and Keith Windom added six apiece
for the Gorillas, who made just 17 baskets in the contest and battled
with 21 turnovers.
Kevin Wollbrinck led three UCM players in double
figures with 14 points. Joe Young added 11 -- all in the second half --
and Nathan Frazier chipped in with 10.
