Farabi, Witter Garner MIAA Player of the Week Honors

Park, Kan. -- Pittsburg State University tailback Caleb Farabi garnered
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Offensive Player of
the Week honors Monday (Sept. 3), while kicker/punter Jared Witter was
named the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Farabi, a 5-foot-7, 178-pound junior from Pittsburg,
Kan., scored four times and gained 130 yards rushing to help the No. 7
Gorillas to their 41-15 win Saturday (Sept. 1) over East Central (Okla.)
University.
Farabi carried the ball 26 times in the contest,
scoring on runs of 9, 7 and 3 yards in the second quarter as the Gorillas
exploded for 24 points to erase a 3-0 deficit and take a 24-3 lead at
the half. He added another 3-yard scoring run midway through the third
quarter.
Farabi is a graduate of St. Mary’s-Colgan
High School.
Witter, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound freshman from Lenexa,
Kan., scored 10 points -- on a pair of field goals and four extra points
-- and punted three times for a 43.3 yard average for the Gorillas.
He booted field goals of 25 and 22 yards in the
contest. Witter also placed a pair of punts inside the ECU 20 yard line
after being called upon to handle Pitt State’s punting chores as
well in the game. He had a long punt of 49 yards in the contest.
Witter is a graduate of Shawnee Mission West High
School.
