Gorilla Football to Begin Spring Drills Next Monday
PITTSBURG
-- The Pittsburg State University football team will open its 2008
spring drills next Monday (March 10). The Gorillas will have a total of
15 practice days, including a pair of scrimmages during their spring campaign.
Pitt State will practice four times the week of
March 10, before taking a week off as spring break hits the PSU campus.
The Gorillas will practice 11 more times during the weeks of March 24,
March 31and April 7. Pitt State will host its annual Lawnchair Scrimmage
on Apr. 5 at 10 a.m. and the Gorillas will conclude spring drills with
the Spring Game on April 12 at 11 a.m.
Both scrimmages will take place at “The
Pitt,” Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium.
PSU head coach Chuck Broyles will welcome approximately
105 players into the spring camp. The Gorillas anticipate returning 13
starters (6 offense, 7 defense) from last year’s squad, which posted
an 8-3 overall record.
“This always is an exciting time of the
year to get back on the field,” said Broyles, who has posted a 182-39-2
(.821) record in 18 seasons as head coach. “The spring season plays
a key role in the development of our football team. With some new faces
on our coaching staff, spring drills certainly are important to meshing
everyone together. Our coaching staff will be evaluating new players as
well as underclassmen who are fighting for frontline spots on either side
of the ball.”
