Two More Players Sign With Pitt State Baseball
PITTSBURG
-- Pittsburg State University head baseball coach Steve Bever announced
today (Aug. 13) the recent signing of Ben Ahrens and Nate Templeton to
letters of intent to join the Gorillas for the 2008 season.
Ahrens (6-4, 248), a junior first baseman, comes
to PSU from the University of St. Thomas. The Bloomington, Minn., native
helped the Tomcats to a 36-12 record and a conference title last spring.
He hit .378 with seven home runs as a senior at Bloomington’s Kennedy
High School in 2005.
“We expect Ben to make an immediate impact
both offensively and defensively,” Bever said. “He has collegiate
experience and will add power to the lineup. He’s also a very good
defensive first baseman.”
Templeton (6-6, 210), a sophomore right-handed
pitcher, comes to PSU from Johnson County Community College. The West
Des Moines, Iowa, native posted a 1-0 record with a 1.50 ERA in 25 innings
of work for the Cavaliers as a redshirt freshman this past spring. He
earned second-team All-State honors as a senior at Valley High School
in 2005, helping the Tigers to a 40-3 record and a state title.
“We expect Nate to come in and make an immediate
impact to our pitching staff,” Bever said. “We see him impacting
our pitching staff initially as a closer. He has good size and good command
of his pitches. We expect him to be a major player on our staff.”
Ahrens and Templeton are the third and fourth players
to sign with Pitt State for the 2008 season.
