Three Gorillas Earn All-Region Baseball Honors
PITTSBURG
-- Three members of the Pittsburg State University baseball team have
earned All-Central Region honors from one or more of the sports three
sponsors -- the American Baseball Coaches Association, the National Collegiate
Baseball Writers of America and Daktronics/Division II sports information
directors.
Senior pitcher Bryson Clark earned All-Region
honors from all three organizations. The Webb City, Mo., native was named
to the first-team All-Region squad on the Rawlings/ABCA team and the NCBWA
team. He received second-team All-Region honors from Daktronics.
Senior outfielder Kevin Deao was named a second-team
All-Region honoree from Daktronics and the NCBWA, while senior outfielder
Jeff Deao was named a second-team All-Region honoree from the ABCA and
the NCBWA.
Clark, the MIAA Pitcher of the Year, now will
be eligible for NCAA Division II All-America honors from the ABCA and
the NCBWA. He led the MIAA in ERA (1.94),
opponent batting average (.173), shutouts (2) and tied for the lead in
complete games (6). He posted a 7-2 record on the season -- both losses
were 1-0 setbacks.
Jeff Deao, a senior from Omaha, Neb., led the
MIAA in stolen bases (39), hitting .342 with five home runs and 29 RBIs.
His brother, Kevin Deao, hit .359 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs on the
year.
