gorilla logo    PITTSBURG-- Junior pitcher Tim Brown tossed a three-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory in game one and four Pittsburg State University relief pitchers combined to help stave off a Truman State University comeback bid in a 6-4 win in the nightcap Saturday (Mar. 22) at Al Ortolani Field.
Pitt State (11-9, 6-2 MIAA) notched its 14th and 15th consecutive wins in the series against winless Truman (0-18, 0-10 MIAA).
The Gorillas staked Brown (1-3) to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and the St. Louis, Mo., native made it stand up, allowing just three singles and one hit batter in the contest. He retired the final 12 batters he faced in the contest.
AJ Loyd singled home Taylor House in the first inning. House was hit by pitch and sacrificed to second base. Brian Dean added an insurance run in the fifth with a solo homer -- his first of the season.
In game two, the Gorillas rushed out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a four-run third inning and a two-run fourth frame. Nick Giuliani had a two-run double as part of PSU's third-inning scoring and Justin Northern added a run-scoring single in the frame.
Brad Bartling (3-1) earned the win in relief of Brandon Boyer pitched four solid innings before running into trouble in the fifth. Nate Templeton struck out the side in the ninth to record his fourth save of the season.
Patrick Martin and Brett Hothan each collected three hits as the Gorillas belted out 13 hits in the game.
