Northern Sparks Pitt State to Sweep of Truman
PITTSBURG--
Sophomore catcher Justin Northern drove in five runs, including a three-run
home run, to spark the Pittsburg State University offense in game one
and the Gorillas rode the momentum to a doubleheader sweep of Truman State
University Friday (Mar. 21) at Al Ortolani Field.
Pitt State (9-9,
4-2 MIAA) claimed 12-7
and 7-3 wins against
Truman (0-16, 0-8 MIAA) to reach .500 for the first time on the young
season.
Northern went 5-for-7 with a double and two home runs
in the twinbill.
Senior lefthander Garrett Forsythe (2-1) earned the
win in the opener, while senior righthander Darrel Dinger (2-0) worked
eight innings in the nightcap for the victory.
Junior outfielder Taylor House went 6-for-7 with three
doubles on the day. He collected six straight hits before finally making
on out in the eighth inning of the nightcap.
The two teams will return to action at Noon (CDT) Saturday
(Mar. 22) with another doubleheader.
