Stewart, Assistant Coach
Pittsburg State Track & Field
Anton Stewart begins his 24th
year as a track & field coach for the Gorillas. He is in his 19th
year as a full-time coach.
Stewart is responsible for coaching throwing events.
During his tenure, the Gorillas have produced 31 All-Americans on the
men’s team, including two national champions, and 20 All-Americans
from the women’s squad. PSU has had 34 All-America efforts in the
throwing events in the last 12 years.
Stewart also served as the defensive coordinator
for the PSU football squad from 1996-2007, after serving as the defensive
line coach for six years. Stewart’s defense consistently ranked
among the Division II national leaders in scoring defense, rushing defense
and total defense.
Stewart, a Bristol, Va., native, earned All-Kansas
Conference recognition in both track and field and football at Southwestern
College in Winfield. He also was an NAIA All-American offensive lineman
in football. Stewart earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies
from Pittsburg State in 1989. He is single and lives in Pittsburg.
