Assistant Football Coach - Defensive Line
Ryan Hellwig enters his second year as a volunteer assistant coach and his sixth season on the PSU staff, after enjoying a highly-successful playing career for the Gorillas.
Hellwig, who assisted Larry Garman with PSU’s tight ends his first two years on staff, begins his fourth year working with the Gorillas’ defensive linemen.
He has coached five All-MIAA performers and one All-American during his tenure on the Pitt State staff.
Hellwig, a Chetopa, Kan., native, was a three-year starter at “Y” tight end for the Gorillas (2002-04). He scored a pair of TDs as a senior in 2004, helping PSU reach the NCAA-II National Championship Game that year.
Hellwig earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Pittsburg State in 2007 and a master’s degree in physical education in 2009.
