Kenneth Paxton Gire (1938-41)
Pittsburg, Kansas
Football Athlete
Kenneth Paxton Gire earned first-team All-CIC honors at center
each of his last three seasons (1939-41). Gire helped lead PSU to a CIC
title his senior season. Additionally, he was named captain of PSU's 50th
Anniversary Football Team in 1953 by coaches Carnie Smith, Garfield W.
Weede and Charles H. Morgan.
Thomas James Miller (1957-58)
Pittsburg, Kansas
Football Athlete
Thomas James Miller was a second-team NAIA All-America selection
at guard on PSU's 1957 NAIA National Championship football team. Miller
also earned first-team All-CIC honors that year.
Michael Paul Nixon (1969-74)
Cherryvale, Kansas
Cross Country/Track & Field Athlete
Michael Paul Nixon was a three-time NAIA All-America in cross
country and a two-time All-America in track and field. Nixon captured
the 1972 NAIA Cross Country National Championship and is regarded as one
of PSU's best distance runners of all time.
John Robert Peterson (1964-67)
Clearwater, Kansas
Football Athlete
John Robert Peterson was PSU's first three-time All-America football
player. Peterson earned honorable mention NAIA All-America honors in 1965
and first-team NAIA All-America honors his final two years (1966-67).
He also was a three-time first-team All-CIC performer (1965-67).
Clarence George "Pansy" Ratzlaff (1929-32)
Buhler, Kansas
Basketball Athlete
Clarence George "Pansy" Ratzlaff was a three-time All-CIC
basketball player for the Gorillas (1930-32). Ratzlaff earned second-team
All-CIC in 1930 and first-team All-CIC honors each of his final two years
(1931-32). He also helped PSU win a school-record 47 straight games between
1930-32.
