Prentice Everett Gudgen (1925-29, 1938-75)

Prentice Everett Gudgen was involved in Pitt State Athletics as an athlete, coach and administrator for nearly 50 years. As a football student-athlete, Gudgen earned honorable mention All-KIAC honors at quarterback in 1927. As track & field coach at his alma mater, Gudgen won five conference titles in a six-year span, and his teams dominated Midwestern competitions. He became PSU's athletic director in 1951 and served until his retirement in 1970. PSU's track & field facility (within Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium) was named Prentice Gudgen Track, in his honor.

Francis "Arkie" Hoffman (1924-28)

Basketball Athlete
Francis "Arkie" Hoffman was one of PSU's most popular basketball players of all time. Among his numerous accomplishments, he earned Kansas All-State and AAU All-America honors in 1928. Hoffman was a four-year letterman and team captain. He also was a two-time All-KIAC center in football (1926-27). Additionally, Hoffman was selected "King of the Campus" by the student body in 1928.



Leonard Leroy Mansfield (1954-57)

Leonard Leroy Mansfield was a first-team NAIA All-America selection at tackle on PSU's 1957 NAIA National Championship team. He was voted team MVP in 1957 and also earned first-team All-CIC honors that year. Mansfield was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the NFL draft in the spring of 1958.



Gary William Snadon (1958-61)
Lockwood, Missouri

Gary William Snadon earned first-team Associated Press Little All-America honors at fullback in leading PSU to the 1961 NAIA National Championship. Snadon, who was a two-time All-CIC performer (1960-61), finished his career as the school's second-highest career rusher with 1,559 yards.



Thomas Henry Spiewak (1957-58, '61-62)

Thomas Henry Spiewak was a first-team NAIA All-America selection at guard as a senior in 1962. Spiewak was a member of both PSU's 1957 and 1961 NAIA National Championship football squads. He also earned first-team All-CIC honors during his senior season.



Delbert Waymen White (1931-34)
Pleasanton, Kansas
Track & Field Athlete
Delbert White was one of the greatest field athletes in Kansas track and field history. He was a champion shot putter, discus thrower, broad jumper and decathalon competitor in the 1930s. In 1934, White placed fifth in the discus and fourth in the decathalon at the AAU National Championships.
