Pittsburg State Golf
Derek Joiner begins his first
year as head golf coach at Pittsburg State University. Joiner also serves
as an assistant basketball coach in the Pitt State Athletic Department.
Joiner took over the golf program in July after
previously serving solely as PSU’s No. 2 basketball assistant.
The Ellinwood, Kan., native spent the 2003-04
season as a member of the basketball support staff at Oklahoma State University,
helping the Cowboys to the 2004 NCAA Division I Final Four. At OSU, Joiner
was responsible for film exchange and scouting reports. He spent the previous
three seasons as a team manager for the Cowboys, earning a bachelor’s
degree in arts & sciences from Oklahoma State University in 2003.
Joiner spent two seasons at Barton County Community
College where he was a two-year varsity letterwinner on the tennis team.
He was a two-time NJCAA Academic Scholar Athlete, earning an associate
degree from BCCC in 2000.
He completed a master’s degree in educational
leadership from Pittsburg State University in May 2006.
Derek and his wife, Stephanie, reside in Pittsburg.
Stephanie serves as a part-time professor in the English Department at
Pittsburg State.
