Assistant Coach
Derek Joiner enters his fourth season as the second assistant for the Pittsburg State University basketball program.
Joiner, an Ellinwood, Kan., native, spent the 2003-04 season as a member of the basketball support staff at Oklahoma State University. He helped the Cowboys to the 2004 NCAA Division I Final Four.
At Oklahoma State, Joiner was responsible
for film exchange and the scouting reports. He spent the previous three
seasons as a team manager for the Cowboys. He earned a bachelor's degree
in arts & sciences from Oklahoma State University in 2003.
Joiner spent two seasons at Barton County
Community College where he was a two-year varsity letterwinner on the
tennis team. He was a two-time NJCAA National Academic Scholar Athlete
award winner. Joiner earned a associate's degree from Barton County Community
College in 2000.
He completed a master's degree in educational
leadership at Pittsburg State in May 2006.
Derek and his wife, Stephanie, reside in Pittsburg. Stephanie serves as a part-time professor in the English Department at Pittsburg State University.
