Beau Schultz, Assistant Baseball Coach

Beau
Schultz is in his first year as an assistant coach on the Pittsburg State
University staff, returning to campus after a two-year absence.
Schultz works with the Gorillas catchers and provides
hitting instruction to the Pitt State position players.
Schultz has spent the last three years as a special
education teacher, the last two years in the Carl Junction (Mo.) school
district after working at Pittsburg High School for one year. He served
as an assistant baseball coach at both PHS and CJHS, serving as head freshman
coach at Carl Junction.
The Independence, Kan., native garnered first-team
All-MIAA, first-team All-Central Region and honorable mention NCAA Division
II All-America honors as a catcher for the Gorillas as a senior in 2005.
He finished his career as a three-time All-MIAA performer, earning honorable
mention All-MIAA honors in his first two seasons in the Pitt State program
(2003-04), after transferring to PSU from Cowley County Community College.
Schultz started 195 games for the Gorillas, compiling
a .349 career batting average with 89 runs scored, 95 RBIs and a .988
career fielding percentage.
Schultz earned a bachelor’s degree in physical
education from Pittsburg State in 2005 and he currently is pursuing a
master’s degree in teaching from the school. He is married to the
former Kayla Dent of Girard, Kan. She is a Crisis Specialist at TFI Family
Services in Pittsburg.
